Standing on another sinking ship

Working in the telecommunications industry for fifteen years i have seen alot of changes in the way business world communicates and uses voice and data. But this year i saw the fall of a giant.

Nortel or Nothern Telecom, canadian company which makes pbx's went bankrupt and is now bought out by AVAYA. The last three years i spent programming a nortel pbx and i almost invested in training so i can do more sophisticated programming on this switch. AVAYA announced that it will support Nortel products for three years after that they will become grey market. Therefore i am maintaining and programming this big box that controls all the telephones in the building which will be shut down and scrapped. That is sad but typical in the fast moving world of constant innovation. The customer i work for does not like AVAYA and will not do any business with them. Therefore my training goal will now be focused on AVAYA's competitor, CISCO. Hello CCNA training. This is not going to be easy. As a matter of fact, it will be agonizing mind-fuck. We're talking adding subtracting multiplying and dividing hexadecimal numbers on the clock. Several tests to take before you get the cert. At least two semesters of courses.
But right now, i am programming a box whos days are numbered. Dead man switching and routing. Standing on a sinking ship....

The future is now and education is the key to my survival, i feel strong, i am ready for the challenge. Now let's see if i can navigate that clusterfuck registration and admissions web page for city college. Maybe i should let them know that 1998 called, they want their HTML back.
