This man died on the wheelbarrel that he was permanently chained to. The place is somewhere in Siberia during the 19th century. Over a million and a half Poles were sent here during the partition of Poland. The ones chosen for this ordeal were teachers, engineers, mathematicians, anyone that was educated. Also military officers, politicians, wealthy people whos pride kept them from bribing the Russsian soldiers. Also musicians and artists. Many of them were attached to the tools that they worked with permanantely. He slept on the wheelbarrow. It was his living room, bathroom, kitchen and then deathplace. In some Goulags you were not allowed to speak. Those that got caught were punished by their tounge being nailed to a board.
